What to Do When Ministry Leaders Fall
From the Show
What do you do when ministry leaders fall?
We can't just forgive and forget. There has to be a process of reconciliation and repentance. The Apostle Paul dealt with this very issue in the first chapter of his letter to the Philippians. While in prison for his faith, he'd heard of others who were preaching Christ out of impure motives, and he says, “some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry but others from goodwill. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I'm pushing for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice."
Now, Paul doesn't say that insincere preachers are fine, and that you should call an insincere preacher to be your pastor…. I think that, as a rule, ministers who fail in a way that is publicly damaging to the reputation of the gospel should not return to that office. — Michael Horton
