Was Jesus a Zealot?

aired December 3, 2019

Episode 327 Show Notes

From the Show

Jesus was definitely not a zealot.  He was actually closer to the Pharisees than any of the other groups. For example he says things like, in Mark 12:17, give to Caesar what belongs to him and to God what belongs to him a zealot would never have said that.

Questions in this Episode

1. Jesus wants you to turn your cheek. Jesus was historically a zealot who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. How does that come in line with the words in Scripture to turn the other cheek?

2. Please discuss spiritual disciplines. Why are these not taught as much as say in the days of the Puritans?

3. How do you know if you are truly repenting of your sin? What about people who struggle with the same sins again and again?

4. Where one word is shown in two places, for instance, in one place it talks about the judgment day where God will say, “I never knew you.” Yet isn’t it in the Old Testament where God said to someone, “even before you were conceived, I knew you.” These seem to be contradictory but I’m curious as to what you have to say about that.
