How Do I Know If I'm Truly Born Again?
From the Show
How do I talk to my atheist Co-Workers?
It's really hard sometimes. A lot of people who say they're atheists were raised in very conservative backgrounds, conservative Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, you name it, and they just don’t want anything to do with it. It’s hard to talk about because anytime you mention Jesus or the Bible, or even religion, they go back to what they knew as a really terrible experience in their life. So, one of the ways to begin is to find out what happened: what was it that made them kind of go off, the off-ramp from believing in God? And listen to them. Just let them tell their story. Don't even say anything really. In response, the first couple of times just keep inviting them to tell their story, maybe have them over for dinner…. And then they might ask you, “so, how about you? Why do you believe in God?” And at that point, I would say, run to Christ. Start with the resurrection of Jesus Christ and talk about how it's a historical event with evidence…be ready to have, as Peter says, “a defense to anyone who asks you for the hope that you have.” Know the gospel well. Know what you believe and why you believe it. But also, know your coworker well. — Michael Horton
