Lamentations is really an amazing book. It’s about the failure of humanity to remain faithful to God reflected in the history of Israel’s exile form the promise land. Lamentations is about the failure of Israel to keep God’s covenant with the result of being exiled as God threatened. And it’s like Adam all over again, right? God gives them a command “do this and you will live; fail to do it and you will die” and they failed to do it…

And so Lamentations teaches us about the situation of the world as a whole, our need for Christ is paramount. We’ve been exiled east of Eden because of the failure of our first parents that we just keep repeating. Our whole human experience is a world east of Eden. We need the Messiah to come and fulfill that promise that God made to Adam and Eve after their sin in Genesis 3:15.
