Does It Matter Which Day We Gather to Worship God?

From the Show

Did the Roman Emperor Constantine switch the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday?

"It's important to realize there's a reason for the shift from Saturday to Sunday. Saturday's the end of the workweek, right? But it's not until Sunday that you enter the new week. Well, Jesus isn't Moses, bringing us to the verge of the Promised Land of Sabbath rest. He's the greater Joshua who actually leads us into the land. The resurrection of Jesus brought the work week of the trial of humanity to an end. Jesus fulfilled the trial. He did all the work that work week, he fulfilled the law, and then he entered into the everlasting Sabbath rest. And, as Hebrews 4 tells us, “we who have believed, have entered that rest with him.” Only an earthquake of seismic proportions could move the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, and the resurrection is that earthquake." — Michael Horton

Questions in this Episode

1. In Jeremiah 15:19 it says, “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let these people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.” How might this apply to the church today?

2. Did the Roman Emperor Constantine switch the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday?

3. What do you say to someone who sometimes feels ashamed of the gospel?

4. Is Isaiah 7:14 really a prophecy about Mary and Jesus? I have heard that the word virgin there really means “young maiden” and that this verse can’t be used as a prediction about Jesus.

5. Does sanctification mean the same thing as holiness?

6. Would you agree that love is the most important teaching in the Bible?

7. In Galatians 5 Paul lists sorcery as a work of the flesh. Do you think that is an issue today?
