Can a Christian Actively Practice Homosexuality?
From the Show
Can a Christian actively practice homosexuality?
The thing you have to realize here is, there's a difference between you being a Christian, struggling with sin (welcome to the club), and being a person who says, “I have the right to live however I want to live. Whether homosexuality is approved in Scripture or not, I'm going to embrace that, that's who I am.” His identity was in Christ, I know that for a fact. We had multiple conversations where he made it very clear his identity was found in Christ. His identity was not found in being LGBTQ+. And it also was not found in him being free of all temptations in that area. Rather, it was that very difficult kind of discipleship, that we all face, that difficult road that we all tread, of being simultaneously justified, and yet still sinful. No, we have no right to consider ourselves children of God if we actively practice any sin, including homosexuality.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6, beginning at verse 9, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." Now he doesn't say you no longer struggle with these temptations, you no longer fall into sin, but he is saying, this no longer defines you, this is no longer who you are. — Michael Horton
