Evangelizing in America is increasingly difficult. As American culture becomes more and more secularized, there is less common ground with people about the nature of sin, God, and life after death. We need to be aware of what Western culture has become in order to share the gospel effectively.
Russell Moore and Tim Keller discuss the 3 things that make reaching Western culture particularly difficult.
1. "You can't assume there is a level of conscious anxiety about life after death…There is no anxiety about sin in particular."
2. "Our culture was actually built to counter Christianity. In other words, it's basically an escape from Christianity and therefore, it foregrounds the failures of the church in a way that other cultures have not done. The failures of the church are foregrounded."
3. "We're the first culture that doesn't believe it's a culture. It just believes it is the universal way all smart people see things…It's the one culture that believes it doesn't have beliefs."
