Core Christianity: Tough Questions Answered

The Wrong Way to Practice Spiritual Disciplines

by Bryan Chapell posted January 9, 2020

Bryan Chapell discusses the wrong and right ways to practice the spiritual disciplines.

We do not read our Bibles and pray daily to earn God's favor. As Chapell says,

"The spiritual disciplines are not about manufacturing grace."

When we participate in reading Scripture and communing with God in prayer, we are feasting on the grace that is already present in Him. As we learn to enjoy the grace God has already provided to us, we will find true love and joy in our time communing with him.

"As my love for him grows, my willingness to serve, desire to serve, my love to serve grows. Serving becomes my greatest priority."

Watch this clip and be encouraged by the ways the spiritual disciplines can cultivate love and joy in your heart as you learn to commune with God based on what he has already done for us.
