5 Ways Scripture Reveals That Jesus Is God
Many people are willing to accept that Jesus existed and that he was a great moral teacher. But was Jesus God? This is where your friend or family member might hesitate. Sometimes even church-going people are confused by this. So, here are five ways Scripture shows that Jesus is God—a distinct person of the Trinity:
1. Jesus shares the same attributes as God.
For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell (Col. 1:19).
2. Jesus shares in the creating work of God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:1–3).
3. Jesus shares in the saving work of God.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth (Eph. 1:7–10).
4. Jesus receives worship due to God alone.
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me"(Matt. 28:16–18).
5. Jesus shares the names of God.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty" (Rev. 1:8).
